Only the islands of Langkawi are provided a separate listing, as of now. Ever since Langkawi was developed for tourism, many of the towns and villages have seen rapid development. Hotels, resorts and new tourist attractions are built in former rural land. This gives the people of Langkawi the opportunity to find employment. Nevertheless, many of the traditional villages still remain in Langkawi, and a drive around the island brings us to lovely kampung houses that have remained very much the same from the days when Langkawi was just a rural backwater of Kedah.
