Bujang Valley Archaeological Museum (25 July, 2015)


Bujang Valley Archaeological Museum (GPS: 5.737946, 100.414422) or Muzium Arkeologi Lembah Bujang is the museum at the Lembah Bujang Archaeological Site. That site was created around Candi Bukit Batu Pahat, an ancient Hindu temple that was rebuilt in situ. After that, at least three other candis were relocated to the site near the rebuilt Candi Bukit Batu Pahat, and the museum was built to hold and to display the artefacts that were discovered in Bujang Valley.

The Bujang Valley Archeological Museum opened in 1978, and was officially opened by Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah on 23 January, 1980. Entrance to the museum is free. Displayed both inside and outside the museum are various stone items, as well as potteries, vases and images of mostly Hindu deities. There are also beads and ceramics, probably from China. Outside the museum, there is a display of traditional Kedah Malay boats called prahu sagor, which were in use until the 20th century, when water transport was replaced by other forms of transport.

Getting to Bujang Valley

Get off the North South Expressway Northern Route (E1) at Exit 170 (Sungai Petani North). Head west until you reach the turning to Route K167. Turn right and follow K167 until junction with K1. Take K1 heading west. Look out for signage to Bujang Valley. Then turn right to K631 and go till the end to reach the Bujang Valley Archaeological Museum.
