Ota (大田区), Tokyo

Ota (大田区) is the southernmost special ward of Tokyo Metropolis. It is bordered by Kanagawa Prefecture to the south, Setagaya and Meguro to the northwest, and Shinagawa to the south. It faces Tokyo Bay to the east.

Ota covers 59.46 sq km (23 sq mi) and has a population of 676,000 (2011 estimate). It is the biggest of the 23 special wards of Tokyo. Ota was established in 1947 when Tokyo Metropolis was created, by merging the former wards of Omori and Kamata.

Ota is the site of Haneda Airport, the busiest airport in Japan which until 2010 served mostly domestic destinations. In 2010 it opened a dedicated international terminal leading to a dramatic increase in international flights to Haneda, with plans for further expansion on the way.

How to reach Ota

The only subway line to Ota is the Toei Asakusa Line serving Magome and Nishi-Magome Subway Stations. Ota is also served by regular trains operated by JR East (Keihin-Tohoku Line), Keikyu (Main Line and Airport Line), Tokyu Corporation (Toyoku Line, Ikegami Line, Tamagawa Line, Oimachi Line) and the Tokyo Monorail. The Shuto Expressway as well as National Routes 1, 15, 133 and 357 connects Ota with the rest of Japan.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
