Hachiōji City (八王子市), Tokyo

Hachiōji (Japanese: 八王子市) is a city on the south central part of Tokyo Metropolis, to the west of central Tokyo. It covers 186.31 sq km (71.93 sq mi) and has a population of 552,000 people (2012 estimate).

The topography of the Hachiōji area is that of a basin, with mountains surrounding it on three sides. The highest peaks in the area include Mount Jinba (857 m) and Mount Takao (599 m). Mount Takao is popular for hiking. Hachiōji was where the road cycling event for the 1964 Summer Olympics was held.
