Chongqing (重庆), formerly written Chungking, is provincial-level municipality (similar to Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin) in central-western China. The city of Chongqing has a population of 5 million people while the municipality a population of 31 million.

The city of Chongqing is located on a tongue of land between the Yangtze River and the Jialing River. Hence it was an important port for river navigation. Due to its geographical location surrounded by tall hills, Chongqing suffers from stifling summers with hazy skies made worse by pollution.

Planning your trip to Chongqing

By plane
The Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport (CKG) receives flights from Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Lhasa, Urumqi, Xi'an, Nanjing, Hangzhou, among others. It also gets international flights from Bangkok, Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo.

From the airport, take the Airport Bus to reach the city. Buses leave the airport every half an hour between 6:00 am to 8:00 pm.

By train
You can also take a train from Beijing to Chongqing. The journey takes 25 hours. The T88xx Express Train connects Chongqing with Chengdu in 2 hours 30 minutes.
