Kurje Lhakhang is the sacred site in Bhutan where Guru Rinpoche practised meditation on his first visit to Bhutan in AD 746. It is the earliest Buddhist site in the country.

Kurje Lhakhang, also written as Kurjey Lhakhang or Kurjey Monastery, is located in the Bumthang valley. Guru Rinpoche was invited to Bhutan by Sendah Gyab, the local ruler, for his help to overcome evil spirits that have been harassing the people. His mission was also to get back the king's sould which had been taken by the guardian deity Shelging Karpo, who inflicted the king with a terrible illness.

Guru Rinpoche came to Bumthang where he began meditating in a cave called Dragmar Dorji Tsegpa, or "red colored cave". Upon defeating the evil spirits, he left imprints of his body in the cave. The site is now the Kurje Lhakhang, or Temple of Imprints.
