Rajshahi is the fourth biggest city in Bangladesh. It is located on the banks of the Ganges River (known as the Padma River in Bangladesh), near the border with India. The city has a population of 475,000 people.

Rajshahi is a famous centre for silk production in Bangladesh. For that reason, it is often called the Silk City. It is also a major fruit producing centre, especially of mangoes and lychee.

Going to Rajshahi

By Train
The most comfortable way to go to Rajshahi is by the Silk City Express, a luxury train that ply the route between Dhaka and Rajshahi. In addition, you can also take the Padma Express from Dhaka. By Road
The main form of transport to take you to Rajshahi is the public long-distance bus. The journey takes about 5 hours. There are a number of air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned buses plying the route.

  1. Bagha Mosque
    Famous mosque in Rajshahi that also appears on the 50 taka banknote of Bangladesh.

  2. Chhoto Sona Mosque
    15th century mosque built by Wali Muhammad during the reign of Sultan Alauddin Husain Shah.

  3. Puthia Palace
    Ancient palace and historical site in Rajshahi.

  4. Riverside
    The scenic waterfront of the Padma River.

  5. Shrine of Hazrat Shah Mokhdum (Rh.)
    The shrine around the grave of a Bangladeshi Muslim said to be the first Islam preacher in the Rajshahi region.
