Colonial City of Santo Domingo is the old quarters of the capital and largest city of the Dominican Republic. Santo Domingo is a big city. With a population exceeding two million, it is the largest city in the Caribbean.

The Colonial City of Santo Domingo is where the first cathedral, hospital and other historical buildings are located. This old part of town was first laid out in 1498, and it became the model for other towns that were developed after it in the New World.

The Colonial City of Santo Domingo was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 14th session of the World Heritage Committee held in Banff, Canada, on 7-12 December, 1990.

Visiting Colonial City of Santo Domingo

Las Americas International Airport (SDQ) is the airport serving Santo Domingo. It is half an hour from downtown Santo Domingo. Most of the heritage sites and tourist attractions are in the Distrito Nacional municipality. The city has a single-line subway, with a second line under construction. It costs 30 pesos (less than US$1.00) per ride. Other than that, taxis are the most convenient but expensive way to move about in Santo Domingo.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
