Hamilton is a small town that serves as the capital, chief port, administrative and financial center of the British Overseas Territory of Bermuda. It is located on the north side of Hamilton Harbour, and is within the parish of Pembroke. The town has a population of 14,000 people, but another 27,000 people from outside Hamilton commute to work here.

Hamilton was established in 1790. It was named after Sir Henry Hamilton, who served as the governor of Bermuda from 1785 to 1794. It began serving as the capital of Bermuda in 1815, when the colonial government relocated from St George's. It was granted city status in 1897.

In the 20th century, Hamilton transformed itself into an international business and financial center, particularly for insurance, reinsurance and investment funds. Most of the world's largest insurance companies are represented here.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
